My Reading Challenges for 2016

I never joined formal book challenges before, because I didn’t even know they were a thing until my friend Kristin of SuperSpaceChick shared the ones she joined for 2016. Last year, I firmly declared I didn’t set any reading goals, one of the main reasons was feeling ashamed by the little amount of books I was reading. I was secretly hoping to read 12 books along the year and I ended up reading 22.

Numbers still scare me, but I decided to take the leap and finally setting some reading goals for 2016 joining two challenges! They both run from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016 and have monthly recap posts with link-ups. Here are the challenges I’m joining! (Thanks to Kristin for the inspiring format)

The Re-Read Challenge

The Host: Belle of the Literati

The Goal: The reader chooses their own re-read goal.

Official Hashtag: #ReRead2016

More Info: There will be monthly link-ups and giveaways! If you write any re-read reviews you’ll get extra entries into the giveaways.

My Goal: 4 Books

Books I Plan to Re-Read:

1. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by JK Rowling
2. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JK Rowling
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by JK Rowling
4. The Silmarillion by JRR Tolkien

Flights of Fantasy Reading Challenge

The Hosts: Alexa Loves Books and Hello, Chelly!

The Goal: Read as many fantasy novels as you’d like to.

Official Hashtag: #flightsoffantasy

More Info: There will be two giveaways, one at 6 months and one at the end of the year.

I know, they are the same I chose for the re-read challenge, but I love being able to join two challenges just reading my favorite fantasy books!

Shelf Love Challenge

The Hosts: ChapterBreak.net, Bookworm Brandee and Second Run Review

The Goal: Read books that are in your personal library that were obtained before January 1, 2016.

Official Hashtag: #ShelfLove

More Info: There will be monthly discussion posts with link-ups and giveaways.

My Goal: 4 Books

Books I Plan to Read:

1. Red’s Untold Tale by Wendy Toliver
2. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
3. The Complete Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle
4. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

For the record, The Complete Sherlock Holmes is a giant book I purchased almost seven years ago because it was just 11 Euros, but I never read it, since it was too heavy to hold. Now, I own the kindle edition of it and I’m hoping to finally tackling some stories (I don’t hope to finish it all this year!).

In addition to these challenges, I’m finally pushing myself to read 20 books in 2016. You can follow my progress on Goodreads.

Did you set any reading goals for 2016?
